Donuts seem to have replaced cupcakes, in terms of dessert trends these days. And I have to say, I’m feeling it. FOR SURE. I think I’ve consumed more donuts this year than I have in the last ten years of my life. I mean, it’s hard to resist when you’ve got a place like Federal Donuts in your city. Getting some fresh, hot ones on a Sunday morning has become a ritual in our house. And their fancies? Well, they deserve a post all to themselves.
Seriously, look at these pretty things! (Note: this photo is actually from last year. When I get Fed ‘Nuts these days, I don’t even bother with photos because I’m too busy shoveling them down my throat.)
I’m always on the look out for Groupon or Living Social deals for donuts, too. I managed to score one earlier this year for a bakery in South Philly, Frangelli’s, and it was so worth it. Something about old school bakery donuts just can’t be beat. It’s a totally different kind of donut than the fancier places are putting out but it’s delicious nonetheless.
Give me a chocolate frosted from Frangelli’s plus a cup of coffee with bourbon barrel smoked sugar and I’ll forget about everything wretched in the world. I might even stop talking shit on Philadelphia for a few minutes. Donuts totally bliss me out, I can’t help it. IT MIGHT BE TURNING INTO A PROBLEM, YOU GUYS. I even made donuts for Derek’s birthday this year. Who needs cake, right?
The Baked Espresso Glazed Donuts recipe I found on Shutterbean turned out to be just the thing for my dude: coffee meets chocolate meets HELL YES. They were a big hit. If I had time to make donuts every weekend, I’d make this recipe again and again. Treat yo’self, people. MAKE DONUTS.
And here’s a little song, just because.
