New Jersey, I Still Love You

by Jill

I woke up this morning and thought there was a fire on our block. Nope. It turns out the pine barrens are still burning.
It’s been a couple days since the fire started and it has now spread across 1,900 acres of land right near my hometown. The schools in Hammonton and the surrounding area are closed due to the smoke. And hell, it’s so strong that I can smell it inside my office building. In Philly. Yuck.
I love the pine barrens. A little piece of me dies on the inside when I hear about it burning away.
