I Keep Thinking Today is Friday

by Jill

Boy, this week sure seems to be dragging on by. Yesterday I kept thinking it was Thursday; today, I’m thinking it’s Friday. I will most definitely be disappointed when I wake up tomorrow and realize it is not Saturday and I still have one more day left in the work week. Boo. Oh well.

The thunderstorm last night was insane! I just read on Philly.com that there were over 4,000 lightning strikes. We were standing at our kitchen door watching it and it was just one flash of lightning after another, along with very heavy rain and some hail. My poor hollyhocks look like they might have taken a beating. I grew those suckers from seeds and they are so pretty! And alive! I’m so terrible at keeping plants alive, so naturally, I was concerned for their safety. Stupid storm. The thunder totally spooked the cats and we all know what that means—a sudden transformation from sweet but sneaky cats into crazy-eyed, bushy-tailed, chirping little goons! Bring on the insanity! They should have their own reality show, the freaks. (I’m really only talking about Miles and Brother; Syd is so laid back the entire house could fall down and she wouldn’t blink an eye.)

Yes, I realize I just got way too in-depth in my discussion of the cats. Be glad I don’t have a baby to talk about. I imagine that could be worse.

Anyway, I hope the weather is nicer over the weekend. While I don’t have any outside activities planned, Derek’s going out of town to do some family stuff in Connecticut, including a Tibetan festival and possibly other outdoor stuff. That leaves me with the house and the cats alllll to myself. I’m planning on cleaning out my basement, baking, watching movies, and who knows what else. It should be a good time. Maybe I’ll even go the gym. (Ha! Yeah, right. I’m not that motivated.) I’d also like to fit in some quality reading time this weekend, too. I’ve got three (1,2,3!) library books out, two of which I haven’t even started yet, and a number of magazines from the past few months that I haven’t even skimmed through. So yeah, I’ve got options.

So much to do! I love making lists! That was my (sort of) to-do list for myself for the weekend. I’m crazy.

In other news, Juliana Hatfield’s new album, How to Walk Away, comes out on August 19th. Yipee! Love her! There are a couple songs from it on her MySpace page but here’s an old video:

Should I buy tickets for the September 10th show at the World Cafe Live? I’ve never seen her live, nor have I ever been to that venue. I wonder if it’s worth it.
